Medicines for weight loss such as Ozempic could be wrapped with birth control and leave you pregnant

A UK watchman urges women to drug loss of GLP-1 loss such as Ozempic and Mounjaro to use effective forms of birth control after receiving more than 40 pregnancy reports related to medicine.

The warning occurs when women flood social media with stories of their so -called “ozempical babies”, including surprise pregnancies while in the pill.

What’s on your GLP-1?

Several GLP-1 medications dominate the market, including Ozempic and Wegovy. Both contain semaglutid, an active ingredient that mimics a natural hormone to the body that increases insulin production, slows digestion and slows appetite.

Then there is saxenda and Vicza, driven by Liraglutide, which works similarly.

The newest medicines like Mounjaro and Zepbound are based on the thyme, a key ingredient that aims at a second hormone involved in the appetite and control of blood sugar.

A surprise side effect

While gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are common with GPP-1s, the surprise side effect that makes waves are unexpected pregnancy.

The United Kingdom Regulatory Agency for Medicines and Health Products (MHRA) has received 28 pregnancy reports in patients with Tirzepatida and new each by semaglutor and liraglutide.

In an alert this week, the agency warned that Tirzepatida can reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, especially in women with a higher body weight. As a result, he recommended using barrier methods such as condoms while in drugs like Mounjaro.

So far, there is no evidence that GLP-1 affects non-oral birth control as it tells them, implants, patches or rings, according to the UK Faculty of Reproductive Health.

Experts say no, at least not yet. There is not enough data to confirm if the GLP-1 is safe during pregnancy.

While some human studies suggest that there is no evil in the use of the first quarter, animal tests have shown that drugs could increase the risk of involuntary abortion and birth defects.

Another reason for jumping GLP-1s while pregnant: they delete your appetite and can trigger gastrointestinal problems, which can lead to nutrient deficiencies that affect fetal development.

Drugs should also be avoided during lactation, as there is not enough research to confirm the safety of babies.

If you plan to get pregnant, the MHRA recommended stopping GLP-1 before starting to try to conceive and give time to your body to erase drugs.

For semaglutid users, this means to set aside at least two months.

If you are in Tirzepatide, stop -you are one month before you try it.

Liraglutide erases the system faster, so you can stop just before you start trying to conceive.
